Michael Mouw
As Director, Exhibits and Interpretation at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Michael Mouw works as a creative and technical director to develop exhibitions that use media and technology to tell powerful human stories. His focus is on the melding of interaction design and experience design to create meaningful free-choice learning opportunities for museum-goers. Michael’s work in museums started in the Photographic Services Dept. at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and followed with documentaries at both the Lowell National Historical Park and Fall River Heritage State Park, in Massachusetts. As Multimedia Director at the Minnesota Historical Society, Michael created work that is documentary-based, drawn from stories told by diverse communities. These stories are often delivered by immersive multimedia experiences, such as the "Flour Tower" elevator ride at the Mill City Museum, through visitor interactions in exhibits explored via tangible interfaces like “Open House: If These Walls Could Talk,” and with gallery games played in social groups like the “Minnesota 150 Challenge” at the Minnesota History Center. Michael is a graduate of the joint degree program between Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
